The Hi-Lites are swaying and you can feel the bass under the floorboards, the ethereal harmonies cause glass window panes to blur the reflection that dances upon them, horns issue forth a liquid stream of eighth notes, the harmonies glistening and swirling like green, purple, and orange colors on the surface of oily rainwater on the asphalt of your street. Since 2005, the Hi-Lites have been promulgating the original Ska sound from Jamaica in the 1960snon-stop rhythms that swing and sway, vocal harmonies that rush in to fill the gap with freshly plowed earth, horns that punch and weave, blend like beef stew, and sizzle like a chunk of butter in an old wrought iron frying pan. The composition of the tunes can only be called Be-bop flavored Caribbean hymnals. The sounds of the soul, live and direct, broadcasting live in real time from the hearts of the ten souls standing, moving left to right, and before you know it, you are floating on a cloud of rhythm and just feeling that feeling that you knew was there all along.
