The Skalatones

Цитата:
With the addition of original SELECTER Charley Anderson, southern swedish ska eight-some THE SKALATONES has teamed up for their fullength follow-up to the "Ruder Than Roots" EP. "BY PUBLIC DEMAND" (Sidekicks Records) contains 11 tracks, irresistibly performed in that ska stomping way, setting the mood and pace for the new ska invasion and an unavoidable dance craze.

The Skalatones started out in 1995. With their roots in rock, reggae and punk, the band has skanked its way up the ska scene in Sweden and internationally. Anyone who has been to a Skalatones concert, knows what rude rhythms, skanking guitars and overwhelming stomping energy this experienced ska orchestra can unleash on stage...

After the release of a 6 track demo, which created a stir in several European countries, legendary ska guru Charley Anderson (ex Selecter), who happened to be in town, joined the band on stage at a festival and turned the gig into a hell of a performance. Of course Charley was made an international member of The Skalatones from that moment on.

On "Ruder than Roots", which was released in May 1997 (Rough Rider Records), The Skalatones really proved that they know what ska is all about. Adding their own touch of the 90ґs, the band put together a 5 track CD with a perfect blend of traditional 60ґs ska and rock steady, 80ґs and 90ґs upbeat ska, reggae and rock. Charley contributed backing vocals on 3 of the tracks, and the lyrics and lead vocals on "4 Of Them Out Of Jail". "Ruder Than Roots" was received with excellent reviews and led to a tour of Sweden in the summer of 1997. Between gigs, the guys (with Charley) went into the studio to record their follow-up fullength album. The result: "BY PUBLIC DEMAND", where 9 brand new songs of shake down party ska join "4 Of Them Out Of Jail" (taken from the "Ruder than Roots"-EP) and "Arte Bella" (a ska classic originally performed by Ken Boothe and Stranger Cole), giving the listener a total of 11 ska stompers made for dancing.

"The Skalatones created dance", was a headline in the papers after a gig in Helsingborg. There is only one way to check if this is true: Experience them live! Already several ska compilations, such as "A Tribute to Madness" (Dolores Records), "Scandinavian Dance Craze" and "Cheap Shots III" (Burning Heart), feature tracks from The Skalatones.

...Theyґre rough, theyґre tough...
...and theyґre rude enough!!

Keep Skanking
Micke Salonen
