Engine 54 was the first Jamaican locomotive to travel from Kingston to Montego Bay. And with full power the members of Engine 54 started the project in 1993. The musicians played in bands like The Butlers, Mother's Pride, Time Tough, Special Guest before. Their hometown is Berlin.
Nana became the female voice of Engine 54 shortly after the band was founded. The first album '54/98' was recorded with a complete line-up. The live concerts were often longer then 5 hours of music as the band loves to play a cross section of Ska history and has a great repertoire of more than 80 songs!
Some time passed without live concerts and then the next album 'Tribute' was released. The line-up had been changed, more own songs were written. The voices of Engine 54 - Thomasand Nana - do a great show and the band - consisting of brilliant musicians - is more then just backing the two singers.
Engine 54 re-invented the Ska and Reggae classics and mixes them with self written songs. It seems like the audience loves this style. Live concerts end up as great parties. Shareing stages with Dr. Ring-Ding, Seeed, Desmond Dekker and other stars from the Ska and Reggae scene made the band popular not only in their homecountry.
