Original Release Date: February 18, 2003. Label: TKO Records. Total Length: 45:11. L.A. punk rockers playing 1977-style, Brit-inspired punk, the Generators aren't half bad. Singer Doug Dagger has a nice manly sort of voice (though he might want to lose the corny moniker), and it goes well with the Generators' thick, crunchy guitar sound. From Rust to Ruin is a collection of material from the Generators' first two out of print albums, as well as a few singles, compilation tracks, and tunes from import releases, covering 1997-2000. They've also re-recorded a couple of old songs for From Rust to Ruin, "Hanoi 68" and "Tranquilized." You're either into this sort of retro-sounding punk rock, or you're not. If you're not already partial to this genre, the Generators may come off as hokey and unoriginal. But if bands like Stiff Little Fingers, Angelic Upstarts, and the Exploited make you want to spike up your Mohawk, then you'll probably find the Generators to be a better than average simulation of that era. And maybe even better than the modern-day versions of those bands, which may still be touring.

Original Release Date: May 9, 2014. Label: Randale Records. Total Length: 31:23. The Generators sound much older than they actually are. The Los Angeles-based punk band released its first album in 1998, nearly two decades after similar West Coast bands Bad Religion and Social Distortion got their start. But even now, in 2014, the Generators still sound like they belong to that old-school punk scene. That raw yet melodic energy is evident throughout the band's new album, "Life Gives-Life Takes" (May 9, Randale Records). The fuzzy, warp-speed riffs on the anthemic opener, "Gotta Be a Better Way," set the tone for the rest of the album. Not that this is all one-note defiant punk; the band shows some ska influence on "Heartbreak Beach" ("The waves are still breaking but my heart's breaking too"). But the Generators are at their best with fist-pumping anthems like "Goodbye California" and "My Days Are Numbered." The Generators don't break new ground on their 10th album, but they excel at what they do: make raucous, enjoyable punk rock. https://www.readjunk.com/reviews/alb...es-life-takes/ https://www.punkrocktheory.com/music...ves-life-takes https://thepreludepress.com/album-re...ves-life-takes
