A Surf Zombies show is some combination of a Saturday morning cartoon, beach party and hotrod convention. The savage jungle rhythms, the swirling tremolo of the dueling guitars and the authentic growl of vintage tube amps make for a truly weird Midwestern wonder. Guitarist Brook Hoover and bassist Joel McDowell have been tearing up stages across the Midwest for decades with Meerkats, Motorolas, Dick Prall Band, Circle of Fiends, Spider Gear and Sarah Cram and the Derelicts. The friends were mesmerized by the sound of the surf guitar as children, and the mystical healing powers of the music have influenced their lives ever since. When they learned “Wipe Out” and played it for their ninth grade talent assembly the whole school screamed like Beatlemania. Brook and Joel are joined by Tyler Russell on drums and Ian Williams on second guitar. The Surf Zombies are stalked by hotrod culture fans, tattoo junkies, punkers, roots rockers, the power pop crowd and fans of great guitar work and all things cool. Lust for Rust is their third CD.
