Disc one covers the early heroes of the revival, including such legends as Ewan MacColl and Skiffle king Lonnie Donegan, whose importance in bringing traditional Folksong to the British public cannot be overstated. A new wave of virtuoso guitarists Davey Graham, Martin Carthy, John Renbourn rub shoulders with The Young Tradition and Anne Briggs.Disc two examines the emergence of the post-Dylan singer/songwriter. Donovan, Gerry Rafferty, Ralph McTell, Sandy Denny and Al Stewart all tasted commercial success, but such individual talents as Michael Chapman, Shelagh McDonald, Bill Fay and the ill-fated Jackson C Frank. Disc three assembles a definitive line-up of bands who both developed and mined the Folk-Rock seam. Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Shirley Collins and The Albion Band were all pioneers, but were eclipsed in sales terms by Lindisfarne. Disc four takes British Folk’s amazing journey to a suitably surreal conclusion with an extended look at the sub-genre now known as Acid Folk music which blended a Psychedelic otherness with a Folk-based sensibility.
