Gangsters were formed in Dublin in 1992 and in just over a year had performed a live session on national radio, appeared on Ireland's leading TV Chat show and had their first recording, 'Can U Feel It' released on George Marshall's Skinhead Times EP. However the rhythm section suddenly left to form another band and it was late 1995 before a new Gangsters line-up resurfaced. Over the following year they were regulars on the gig and festival scene in Ireland and three tracks from this line up featured on the 'Only For Ska Addicts' compilation. The band had again gone into hibernation when an offer came in from across the Atlantic to record an album. New members were quickly drafted in, resulting in 'A New Beginning' which was released on Washington DC based, Beatville Records in September 1998 and the following year in Europe on Dutch label, CRS. Beatville Records were hopeful that an Irish ska band may appeal in America but by the time it was released, the ska bubble had burst stateside. A busy period of gigging to promote the album followed which included a couple of appearances at ska festivals in England however again, in 2000 key members were to leave. Over the next 2-3 years, yet another line up of Gangsters, fronted as always by Patrick 'Coco' Colton appeared for one off gigs. Suprisingly, to date, Gangsters remain the only Irish ska band to have released an full length album
