Nashville jazz chanteuse Anna Wilson (wife of Keith Urban’s frequent co-writer Monty Powell) collaborated with country artists to put a jazz spin on several country and pop classics. She doesn’t just alternately pay homage to country and jazz here; she elegantly blends the two. The Patsy Cline classic “Walkin’ After Midnight” gets the big-band treatment, with Lady Antebellum providing butter-smooth backing vocals. Rascal Flatts provides intricate harmonies behind Anna and Ray Price on the piano-driven “You’re the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me.” The Cindy Walker-penned “You Don’t Know Me” gets a sultry treatment with help from American Idol contestant Matt Giraud, while Keith Urban lends vocals to the mournful “Good Time Charlie’s Got the Blues.” More than anything, Countrypolitan Duets, as its title suggests, is a nod to country’s potential for sophistication and broad appeal.
