Just under 14 months after their debut album “Melodien für Momente” – featuring cover versions of songs by their own predecessor band, the Hamburg two-tone punk legends NO LIFE LOST – they’ve finally released “UNERHØRT – Ihre schönsten Songs bis jetzt”, an album packed with brand-new tracks. With eleven tracks that cover a wide range of genres this time round, The NØ! offer a musical take on the issues that concern us in these times. The lyrics deal with social media hype and AI in “Ich mag Ich Nicht”, people with oversized egos and influence in “Supertyp”, the cult of the body in “Der Tapezierer”, life after death (“Jenseits vom Leben”), corny jokes (“Töten mit Witz”) (a musical nod to the brilliant Monty Python), and rampant commercialisation in sport (“Fußball, Du bist ein Arsch”), and much more. All this is presented without preaching, but rather thoughtfully and with a good dose of humour. Musically, the band draws not only on ska-punk, but also demonstrates their mastery of styles ranging from bossa nova and roots reggae right through to the sludge metal track “Der Tapezierer”.
